Everest: Sherpa rescues Malaysian man from 'death zone', carrying him on his back [VIDEO]

A Nepali Sherpa guide has hauled a Malaysian climber down from an area of Mount Everest known as the 'death zone'.

Gelje Sherpa found the stranded climber suffering in extreme cold at the deadly height while leading another climber.

With the mountaineer strapped to his back, he carried him 600m down to where he could be evacuated before returning to Malaysia last week.

Temperatures above 8,000 m (26,000ft) can drop to minus 30 Celsius, and supplementary oxygen is needed to survive.
