On August 26, 1991, Mary T. Wojtyla, was walking with her lawyer across some train tracks in Downers Grove, Illinois; when Ms. Wojtyla was struck by a train that she failed to realize was approaching. The 41 year old, mother of 3, was apparently distracted by ongoing divorce proceedings, when she crossed the center track and was struck by an EMD E9 train, estimated to be traveling at 60 miles per hour. Wojtyla was killed instantly.
